Soft

Prosperous tones on the sidewalk
in the footsteps, painted upon
the banners atop granite towers
virtuous slant, in the sunshine
hidden away in sweet smiles
jellied in the roving eyes,
something slightly off-the-cuff
in the rainbow now, a grey dress
and black boots trampling o'er the
green grass, o'er the calm, golden
like afternoon tea,
slightly bitter, but with more honey
the words come out
like silk,
and still the cloying music plays
on the street corners, in our homes
a notice of times long past
when world seemed just a bit more
soft.
